Why a doodle?
We are a household of animal lovers, in fact in our keep we have or have had, horses, rabbits, chincillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, lizards, turtles, cats, and of course dogs! Unfortunately, some of the members of our household are also allergy and asthma sufferers; thus to alleviate any triggers we had to choose canine companions (aka roommates) who are low or non-shedding. Although there is no dog that is 100% hypoallergenic, and coat type or fur is not the only source of allergens (to name a few dander, saliva, urine) fortunately we have been able to cohabitate with our Poodles, Schnoodles, and Goldendoodles quite well!

So what exactly is a Goldendoodle, you ask? According to Wikipedia, a Goldendoodle is a "designer dog" created by crossbreeding a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. But much more important than that, it is a breed that takes advantage of heterosis or hybrid vigor. Crossbred vigor and genetic diversity can improve a dog's health, wellness, and fitness so we get the best of both worlds: the intelligence, trainability, faithfulness, and non-shedding coat of a Poodle along with the intelligence, playfulness, friendliness, and affection of a Golden Retriever. Actually there is a funny (but true) adage that says, "With a Goldendoodle you will never pee alone again."
​What is a Goldendoodle's temperament? Our doodles are affectionate dogs who are very protective of and loyal to their "hoomans". Behind the door or fence, they sound like a Doberman, or German Shepherd there to alert us that our deliveries have arrived, but in fact in reality they are bundle of cuteness and goofiness! The dog training website, Dog Academy says F1B Goldendoodles make wonderful family dogs as they are super friendly and do well with children. They are affectionate and enjoy spending time with their families. They're also easy to train as they tend to be people-pleasers. They definitely have what is often considered the ideal temperament for a dog! (dogacademy.org)
